Like the pattern of a well-crafted quilt, our Guild is held together by a strong foundation of shared guidelines, responsibilities, and traditions. Our Bylaws provide the framework that helps Magnolia Quilt Guild remain organized, welcoming, and true to its purpose of preserving the art and history of quilting.
Our bylaws outline the essential pieces of Guild life, including:
Membership — Who can join, membership responsibilities, dues, and the privileges of being part of our Guild.
Leadership — The roles and responsibilities of our officers and Board of Directors, along with terms of office and elections.
Meetings — When we gather, how Guild business is conducted, and requirements for making decisions.
Committees — The teams that help bring our Guild to life through Membership, Hospitality, Programs & Events, Community Projects, and Social Media & Technology.
Elections & Nominations — How Guild leaders are nominated and elected, ensuring members have a voice in our leadership.
Amendments — How members can propose and vote on changes to the bylaws as our Guild grows and evolves.
Dissolution — Guidelines for responsibly handling Guild assets should the organization ever cease to operate.
Our bylaws give us the structure we need while leaving plenty of room for the creativity, friendship, learning, and community that make Magnolia Quilt Guild special. They are the framework of our quilt—helping each unique piece come together to create something strong, beautiful, and lasting.
The President helps keep the Magnolia Quilt Guild stitched together by providing leadership, organization, and support. This role presides over Guild meetings, coordinates committees and activities, prepares monthly agendas, and ensures the Guild’s business runs smoothly. The President also supports the Programs & Events Committee, serves as a resource to Guild members, and helps keep all the pieces working together to create a strong and vibrant Guild.
The Vice President helps keep our Guild connected and supported, working alongside the President to keep things running smoothly. Stepping in to lead when needed, this role also helps nurture the welcoming spirit of our Guild by supporting Hospitality and Community Projects. Together, these efforts help weave our members, activities, and community into a stronger whole.
The Secretary helps capture and preserve the stories and details that make our Guild special. This role carefully stitches together meeting notes and shares them with members, helping everyone stay informed and connected. From invitations and RSVPs to thank-you notes and other correspondence, the Secretary helps keep our Guild’s communications flowing smoothly. As Historian, this role also preserves the memories and milestones that form the fabric of our Guild’s story, while supporting the Technology Committee and helping keep our connections strong.
The Treasurer keeps the financial threads of our Guild carefully woven together. From membership dues and donations to fundraising proceeds, this role ensures every dollar is securely managed, accurately recorded, and thoughtfully accounted for. By maintaining financial records, preparing reports and budgets, and keeping important documents and filings in order, the Treasurer helps provide a strong foundation for our Guild. Working alongside the Membership Committee, the Treasurer helps make sure all the pieces come together to keep our Guild connected, supported, and thriving.
The Membership team helps weave the fabric of our Guild by welcoming members, keeping our membership records organized, and making sure everyone stays connected. Working alongside the Technology Committee, this role maintains applications and member information, partners with the Treasurer to process dues, and helps keep track of meeting attendance. By caring for the details behind the scenes, Membership helps every quilter find their place in our Guild and strengthens the threads that bring our community together.
The Hospitality team helps create the warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes our Guild feel like home. From refreshments and name tags to preparing the meeting space, this role helps ensure every member feels comfortable, connected, and ready to enjoy time together. Working alongside Membership and Programs & Events, Hospitality helps set the stage for fellowship, creativity, and the sharing of quilts and stories. Whether welcoming a new face or celebrating a finished project during “Show and Tell,” this team helps stitch our Guild community together, one gathering at a time.
The Programs & Events team helps keep our Guild’s creativity in motion by planning inspiring programs, workshops, classes, and presentations that encourage quilters to learn, grow, and share their skills. From discovering new techniques to welcoming knowledgeable speakers, these activities add fresh and colorful threads to our quilting journey. Working with the Technology Committee to spread the word, the team helps bring members together for opportunities to learn, create, and connect.
Every quilt starts with a vision, a little inspiration, and someone willing to bring the pieces together—and for our guild, that person is Sandy!
Sandy had the wonderful vision to get our guild started and has been helping us turn that vision into something truly special. She generously opens the doors of her shop to host our guild, giving us a welcoming place to gather, share ideas, learn, and stitch together the beginnings of our quilting community.
As our guild grows, Sandy continues to lend her ideas, insight, and encouragement. She is always willing to help us explore new possibilities and find the right pieces to make our guild the best it can be.
The Community Projects team carries the spirit of quilting beyond our Guild by finding meaningful ways to share our time, talents, and handmade gifts with others. This team identifies opportunities to meet needs in our community and organizes Guild members to stitch together their efforts in service. Through compassion, creativity, and a shared love of quilting, we use our craft to create comfort, connection, and a lasting impact in the communities we call home.
The Social Media & Technology team helps connect the threads of our Guild in the digital world. From supporting meeting technology and managing online platforms to preserving electronic records and archives, this team keeps our information organized, accessible, and secure. Working behind the scenes, they help officers and committees use technology with confidence, explore new tools, and share the Guild’s programs and activities with our community. By keeping our digital connections strong, this team helps ensure that every thread of our Guild stays connected—from the sewing room to the screen.
